How to Do It

In a small space, players engage in a mirror or free-play game — mirroring a partner’s movements, playing tag, or freely moving and reacting in a competitive but unstructured way. Keep it active and reactive, changing direction and pace in response to others. Play in short, intense bouts with rest between rounds.

ii.

Why It Works

Game-based, free play trains movement, reaction, and conditioning in an unstructured, enjoyable format; the unpredictability develops open-skill agility and decision-driven movement, while the competitive context naturally raises intensity and engagement.

iii.

Hockey Transfer

Mirrors the reactive, decision-rich movement of hockey — reading and reacting to others in an unstructured way; trains the open-skill agility, reaction, and competitive movement that closed drills can’t, in a fun, game-like format.

Coaching Cues

  • "Stay active and reactive"
  • "read and respond to others"
  • "compete and have fun"
v.

Common Mistakes

Standing around (low engagement); not reacting (anticipating); letting it get too casual (no intensity)
