Competitive Play

How to Do It

Two players engage in a 1v1 battle for possession or position — protecting an object/ball while the other tries to win it, or competing for a spot using body position and leverage. Use a wide base, low center of gravity, and body positioning to win or hold possession. Battle hard in short rounds with rest, then switch.

ii.

Why It Works

Battle games train the body-positioning, leverage, anti-rotation core stiffness, and lower-body strength used to win physical contests; competing for position against a live opponent develops strength-in-contact and compete level in a realistic, resisted context.

iii.

Hockey Transfer

Directly mirrors hockey board and net-front battles — protecting the puck, winning body position, and using leverage and a strong base against an opponent; trains the contact strength, core stiffness, and compete level central to winning puck battles.

Coaching Cues

  • "Wide base, stay low"
  • "use leverage and body position"
  • "compete hard, protect possession"
v.

Common Mistakes

Standing too tall (losing leverage); a narrow base (off-balance); reaching instead of using the body; low compete

Progression / Regression
